Status of Women

1 Mar, 2010 | By Elaine | I was fortunate enough to attend the 40th Anniversary Commemoration of the establishment of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women in Ottawa on the Hill a few weeks ago. I was shocked and outraged to learn how far Canada has regressed in the past few years and how our commitment to the disadvantaged has dropped off Canada’s to-do list… a commitment that made countries all over the world look up to us and respect us. How far we’ve fallen in a few short years!

A Cross-Reference for Canadians

8 Feb, 2010 | By Susan | This is not a very well developed idea, but I would like to see somewhere in Canada - where when a news item comes out, it is cross-referenced to archives, other related news items, and to procedures in Parliament or government, or even history, if necessary.

PROHIBITION-COSTLY, DANGEROUS, DESTRUCTIVE, JUST PLAIN WRONG!

17 Dec, 2009 | By Neil | Public servents hold a public trust to protect the public. The public is made up of individuals who each have the right not to be bullied into doing or not doing whatever they want or don't want to do- unless they unreasonably interfere with others.

Bill C-15

17 Dec, 2009 | By Alan | Dear Senators Firstly i'd like to thank you for your exhaustive work on Bill C-15 , the Governments new drug crime bill. A enormous amount of evidence and witnesses provided much food for thought.

Canada is falling

10 Dec, 2009 | By Michael | Hello I am a father and a husband with no criminal record or tainted past; I pay all my taxes and live an honest life in Abbotsford B.C. I am upset at how Canada is passing Bill C-15 and saying it is going to help Canada and that Canadians want this bill. Every single person that I have met and asked has stated that this bill is not what Canada wants and myself as a Canadian can honestly say it makes me sick to see our government lie about what the people want...

Bill C-50

6 Nov, 2009 | By Deborah | I would think that the start date should be for anyone that had an open EI claim as of January. How can the Tories leave out the people that lost their jobs later last year, they opened a claim but due to severence packages were not able to receive EI until many months later and now they will not receive an extention to their claim, even though they did not receive an ei payment until after this "start" date?

Immigration System

23 Oct, 2009 | By anthony | It is time to streamline our immigration and refugee system. It seems there is an unlimited ability to apply, wait a few years, and if denied there are many avenues of appeal and review. Lets have a fair system for those coming in the front door and not for those of the means to get in the back door abusing the system.

Terms of Reference for Members of the Senate

3 Sep, 2009 | By Stella | Mr. Harper, addressing his latest appointments to the Senate said words to the effect that "......these appointments will ensure that our policies will be implemented...."

Reality Check

20 Aug, 2009 | By Andrew | From what I've seen instances of escapisim are rampant right now in North America. People are turning to obsessive intrest in hobbies, compulsive celebrity watching, substance abbuse, over consumption of sports entertainment, ... you name it.

Senate Report on Africa

17 Jul, 2009 | By Andrew (Max) | What has happened to the Senate Report on Africa..?

Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement Bill C-24

16 Jun, 2009 | By Lori | Peru has temporialy suspended laws that would go against Peru's own constittion by opening up land and resourses to mining, logging, oil and gas. I am concerned that as soon as this bill has senate approval the alleged human rights violations of June 5 2009 will continue.

Mixed Race Marriage and Intercultural and Race Relations Sensitivity

28 Apr, 2009 | By Roman | As one in a mixed race marriage (Caucasian and visible minority), I have to live in my family and in my social relations an ongoing senstivity to intercultural and race relations or live multiculturalism, as proclaimed by the federal government.

Point of Consumer:

25 Apr, 2009 | By Michael | While there has been a lot of talk about injecting money into the banks and investments into the infrastructure, I firmly believe there is another opportunity to improve our economy and make an immediate impact.

The State of Canada and Its Place in the International Community

20 Apr, 2009 | By Judith | I see nothing but trouble on the horizon. Political ideaology is lovely in economic prosperity but it is not the time for this now. Action and not sparring in the house.

Piracy

20 Apr, 2009 | By Brian | We should consider working with the owners of ships at risk and forming escorted convoys through the waters near Somalia. It worked in WW II.
